With so many types of grow light systems available, it can be overwhelming to figure out which one will best suit your needs. Different types of grow lights offer different advantages in the growing industry –  so what makes our Full Spectrum Grow Lights stand out above the rest? When choosing a Grow Light, Asking yourself these questions can help you make the best choice.

 

  • What types of plants will you be growing?

    • Plants require different environments, and often they require different types of light for photosynthesis – so finding the right spectrum is essential to their growth.

  • When are you planning to grow?

    • An indoor plant requires more hours of light than an outdoor plant. When grown under artificial lighting, most edible species require 14 to 18 hours of light per day. It is not recommended to leave the lights on 24-7, however, as at least six hours of darkness each day is crucial to plant health.

  • How tall will the plants get?

    • Compared to fluorescent grow lights, LED Grow lights produce much less heat, which makes it possible to adjust the height of suspension as needed. It is ideal to hang lights from 12 to 24 inches above the plants, and to raise them as the plants grow.

  • Where will you put the light?

What Makes The Most Green?

Traditionally, LED grow lights combine blue and red LEDs. The light emitted is typically pinkish-purple, indicating that blue and red light have been mixed together. Traditional LED grow lights use this formulation because plants absorb the most light in the blue and red portions of the spectrum.

Broad-spectrum LEDs are commonly thought to be less efficient than red/blue LEDs because of energy losses in the phosphor conversion process. Full-spectrum LED luminaires are better than red/blue luminaires in indoor applications since they emit a wide range of wavelengths throughout the lifecycle of your crop.

As more research is done, it is becoming evident that wavelengths such as green, previously thought of as not very useful to plant growth, play an important role in photosynthesis and certain morphological responses. Furthermore, many full-spectrum luminaires can also emit energy in the far-red region, which can encourage stem and leaf growth.
